How Much Does a Welder Make in Utah?
It’s a great time to be a welder in Utah! With many experienced workers retiring and a shortage of younger tradespeople, your skills are likely to be in high demand. According to the Utah Department of Workforce Services, welding is one of the hottest jobs in advanced manufacturing right now, second only to mechanical engineering.
Compared to many other workers in Utah, welders are often paid well. We go into the details below.
Welder Pay Ranges in Utah
Welders have a fairly wide pay range. Depending on your experience level and the types of welding jobs you’re looking at, you might expect to make anywhere from $16-$34 per hour as base pay. Many jobs will give you opportunities to earn more through overtime or bonuses.
The city and company you work for can make a large difference. Some companies pay as much as $42/hour for Utah welders in niche fields with highly specialized skills. If you’re looking at equivalent welding jobs in different locations, you can expect to see higher pay ranges in the Wasatch Front area than in other parts of Utah.
For “average” jobs, you might find very different pay rates, depending on who you ask. According to Indeed, the average base pay for a welder in Utah is $23.17 per hour, based on job postings from the past 36 months ending in December 2025. However, ZipRecruiter shows a lower average of $20 per hour. And within each data set, there’s a large range: Indeed’s data shows welders frequently making anywhere from $16.18 to $33.18 per hour in Utah, and that’s just base pay.
Here at LG Resources, average hourly pay rates vary from month to month depending on the jobs we’re hiring for at any given time. How to Make More Money as a Utah Welder

Specialize
Specialized welding work is a great way to earn more as a welder. Compared to the average welding job in Utah, your hourly pay might be:
- $1 more as a welder-fabricator
- $4-5 more as a structural welder
- $10-11 more as a pipe welder
Many welding employers look for MIG and TIG welding skills. These are excellent skills to develop if you’re hoping to earn more in the long run.
Gain Experience
The more experience you have, the more you can typically make as a welder. The highest-paying employers tend to hire only workers with a great deal of experience and specialized skills.
Some job openings will show a pay range, such as $35,000-$65,000 per year or $18-25 per hour. You can expect to make the lower end of the range if you’re just starting your welding career or barely meet the job requirements. After gaining experience and building your skills, you might be able to negotiate for the high end of the range.
Think About Moving
The job location can make a big difference in your pay range. For instance, jobs in Orem might pay several dollars an hour more than jobs in West Valley. For the highest paying opportunities, look into travel positions.
Move Up the Career Ladder
Based on Indeed salary data, welding supervisors and inspectors both make over $32 per hour in Utah, on average. Many of these jobs are salaried positions, so these rates translate to over $64,000 per year.
